Entrevista ao Mr. Mário Moinhos...

MILK CUP: Deadly 'Boa' hope to strike

JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink, João Vieira Pinto, Petit , Petit, José Bosingwa, Ricardo, Nuno Gomez, Jorge Ribeiro...

Just some of the famous names who have donned the famous checkered white and black shirt of Boavista from Portugal. And this week the young stars from the Porto-based club will be hoping to make their mark as they make their debut in the Milk Cup'

Premier section.

Boavista has launched the careers of such stars like João Vieira Pinto, Petit and Nuno Gomes.
Another former player, José Bosingwa (25), who made such an impact at Euro 2008, will begin the new season at Chelsea, following a £16.2m move from Porto.
And after three consecutive years of failing to achieve European competition, talisman coach Jaime Pacheco returned for a third stint as Boavista manager, without success.
Also, a financial crisis prompted the club to a "back-to-basics" attitude, developing younger players and resurrecting the club's youth academy.
Despite finishing ninth in the 2007-08 season, Boavista was relegated to the Liga de Honra, due to bribery of referees in 2003-04, through their involvement in the Apito Dourado corruption scandal.
However none of that will phase the youngsters attempting to achieve Milk Cup immortality this week.
Team manager Mario Moinhos, speaking through an interpreter, said his promising team has only been together for 15 days - but he hopes that their natural flair and technical ability will carry them far in the tournament.
"We only had one week preparation, playing games 11 v 11. But the boys have been at the club for seven years.
"The Milk Cup in Portugal is very popular. It is known as the best tournament for young players.
"A Portuguese team has never won the Milk Cup and Mario concedes that it will be difficult given the high level of opposition at the tournament.
"Yes we hope to do well but there are very good teams here like Manchester United, Seville, Fluminense - but we will do our best.
"We would like to win the tournament but at this part of the season it is also important to develop the players.
"And the manager promised that his young team would play typically "Portuguese football" this week - "passing, passing, passing and then...goals!"
